Dear wolfpack, thankyou for signing the petition! You helped change the world and protect human rights!

Last week, nearly 230,000 of us went All Out for Russia - and the pressure worked. The vote on the anti-gay bill did not take place!

All Out members around the world amplified the voice of Russian activists, forcing world leaders to speak out against this law that justifies hate and discrimination.

Polina, Sasha and our other friends in Russia remain hopeful, but the fight is far from over. The bill may still come back - and if it does, we’ll be ready.

Unfortunately there’s no time to celebrate. The Nigerian Senate has just followed Russia’s bad example, passing a bill this week which would make it illegal to publicly support LGBT rights. Simply showing up to a gay bar could land you in jail for 14 years, regardless of your sexuality. Enough is enough:

Before the bill passes, it has to be signed by President Goodluck Jonathan. As a powerful African nation, Nigeria cares strongly about its international reputation and a global outcry will make President Jonathan think twice about voting this into law.

This Monday, the Nigerian government will be attending an important United Nations meeting in New York City. Our friend Ife and other Nigerian activists will march to the UN and call on the government to abandon the legislation. Will you take one moment to show your support - we’ll deliver your signature in person and put real pressure on the Nigerian government:

Nigeria is already an incredibly dangerous place to be lesbian, gay, bi or trans. This piece of legislation will only further push the Nigerian LGBT community deep underground.

Nigeria’s president recently posted on his Facebook page: “When I assumed the mantle of leadership of Nigeria … one of my personal decisions was to prioritize education (being a teacher myself) and the welfare of the Nigerian people (health, the economy and energy security).”

That’s an irony in itself, for this terrible, bigoted bill threatens to set Nigeria back - especially in regards to health and HIV/AIDS. By further criminalizing homosexuality, Nigeria’s effort to control its HIV/AIDS pandemic - one of the most dire in the world - is under serious threat.

dozens of other Nigerian activists will deliver this letter directly to the Nigerian government next week - at a major UN meeting in New York City. Ife and his friends ARE NOT ILLEGAL. Stand with Ife by signing urgent letter and sharing with your friends….

this information was shared with me by the amazing human rights organisation allout.com together in this digital age we can really make our voices heard! “People have the power!” Xx patrick
